Dharamshala and Mcleodganj

35 Kms away, Dharamshala is a district headquarter of Kangra district. Another 15 Kms from Dharamshala is Mcleodganj where the world renowned spiritual leader of Tibet – His holiness The DALAI LAMA lives with his followers. The place is now known as “Little Lahasa in India”.
The Buddhist Monastery at Mcleodganj is worth a visit – very close to the residence of his Holiness The DALAI LAMA. The Tibetan institute of performing arts and a handicrafts centre is also worth a visit.
You could also visit the church of St. John – in – the wilderness, Dal lake, Dharmkot, Bhagsunag.
On the way back from Dharamshala a visit to the Chinmaya Ashram (An ashram and temple with a difference) is very refreshing. Joining the regular prayers is a soul soothing experience.

Masroor Temple

Masroor temple, 65 Kms away is this monolithic temple, similar to the temple of Ellora. This is the only shrine carved out of Live rock in North India. Images of Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita are installed here.

Brajeshwari Devi Temple

The Brajeshwari Devi temple in Kangra, 35 Kms from Palampur, The ancient city of kangra is famous for its temple of Brajeswari Devi. It is one of the ‘Shaktipeeth’ where the breasts of the Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. The temple was of such legendary wealth that it was plundered by successive invaders – Mahmud Ghazni, Firoz tughlak, Timur the Lame etc. Emperor Akbar have presented gold umbrella to the temple. Held in high esteem by worshippers of “Shakti” the supreme power of God, it draws pilgrims from all parts of India and abroad.

Chamunda Devi Temple

The Chamunda Devi temple, 18 Km from Palampur, dates back to the story of the goddess Ambika who was harassed by two demons, Chanda and Munda. Enraged, Ambika knit her brows and from their folds emerged a terrifying form of the goddess Kali who slew the demons. Pleased, Ambika declared that Kali would now be worshipped here as ‘Chamunda’ and she is said to have the power to grant boons.

Andretta

Andretta (15 Kms): famous English Playwright, Nora Richards and renowned Painter Sant Sobha Singh was so taken in by the enchanting beauty of this place that they decided to settle down here for the rest of their life. An Art gallery displays the original painting of S. Sobha Singh. There is also a pottery and crafts centre at Andretta.

Joginder Nagar

Jogindernagar, Abt 15 Kms ahead is Jogindernagar. There are two hydro projects worth visiting. One can also enjoy most thrilling trip to Barot (reservoir for Hydro projects) through steep mountain ride in a trolley from here.
Barot, Abt 20 Kms ahead is an untouched rare, scenic picnic spot. It is famous for Trout fishing

Para Gliding

Bir, abt 10 kms ahead of Baijnath is a landing sight of Para Sailors and Hang Gliders. There is a beautiful Tibetan monastery and Tibetan handicrafts centre.
Billing, 12 kms up in the hills from Bir is declared one of the best sight for Para-Gliding in the world. Para –Gliding tournaments are held every year at this place. It is also a unique picnic spot.

The Baijnath Shiv Temple

The Baijnath Shiv Temple, 15 Kms from Palampur, built in 804 AD, is a splendid example of classical Indian ancient architecture. Situated at the banks of Binwa river, this temple of Lord Shiva – revered as Vaidyanath. The Linga enshrined in its sanctum is one of the 12 Jyothrlingas in the country. King Ravana is believed to have prayed to Lord Shiva for the boon of immoratality at this place, is a major draw of pilgrims and visitors all year round.
